The Ford GT40 (Mk I) is a high-performance sports car built by a British team consisting of designer, Eric Broadly; team manager, John Wyer and engineer, Roy Lunn. The team designed and built a prototype GT40 at the Lola Cars factory in Bromley, England. The project moved to Slough, England at the end of 1963 as Ford formed a new subsidiary entitled "Ford Advanced Vehicles Ltd". The Ford GT40 participated in its first race in May 1964 at the Nürburgring 1000km race. It retired from the race after a suspension failure whilst obtaining an early second place position during the race. Three 7-litre V8 Mark II Ford GT40 racing cars finished 1-2-3 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. The production models were first introduced in 1964 at the cost of $17,000. At the time the GT40 was the most expensive vehicle on sale that was manufactured by Ford. Ford GT40 występuje jedynie w Need for Speed: World i Shift 2: Unleashed ( tylko w DLC Legends Pack). The Ford GT40 is a high performance sports car and winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans four times in a row, from 1966 to 1969 (1966 being the Mk II, 1967 the Mk IV, and 1968-1969 the oldest chassis design, the Mk I). It is so far the only racecar built in America (Mk IV only) to win overall at Le Mans (1967 Mk IV). It was built to win long-distance sports car races against Ferrari (who won at Le Mans six times in a row from 1960 to 1965). Chassis # P-1075, which won in 1968 and 1969, is the first car in Le Mans history to win the race more than once with the same chassis, and one of three cars to have won with the same chassis.) using a Ford engine originally 4.7- litre, enlarged to 4.9-litre (also known as a 5.0) with special alloy Gurney-Weslake cylinder head. The car was named the GT (for Grand Touring) with the 40 representing its overall height of 40 inches (1.02 m, measured at the windshield) as required by the rules. Large displacement Ford V8 engines (4.2 litre, 4.7 litre and 7 litre) were used, compared with the Ferrari V12 which displaced 3.0 litres or 4.0 litres. Early cars were simply named "Ford GT". The name "GT40" was the name of Ford's project to prepare the cars for the international endurance racing circuit, and the quest to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The first 12 "prototype" vehicles carried serial numbers GT-101 through GT-112. The "production" began and the subsequent cars, the MkI, MkII, and MkIIIs,( with the exception of the MkIV, which were numbered J1-J10)were numbered GT40P/1000 through GT40P/1145, were officially "GT40s". The name of Ford's project, and the serial numbers dispel the story that "GT40" was "only a nickname." The contemporary Ford GT is a modern homage to the GT40. Der Ford GT40 ist ein Sportwagen von Ford, der 1965 produziert wurde. The Ford GT40 is a secret car in Miami. El Ford GT40 es un coche deportivo que aparece en Driv3r como uno de los vehículos ocultos en Miami. This Matchbox vehicle has come out in the following 1/57 scale versions: The car was named the GT after the Grand Tourisme category where it was intended to compete; the 40 represents its overall height of 40 inches (1.02 m, measured at the windshield) as required by the rules. Large-capacity Ford V8 engines (4.7 L and 7 L) were used, compared with the Ferrari V12 which displaced 3.0 L or 4.0 L. Early cars were simply named "Ford GT". The name "GT40" was the name of Ford's project to prepare the cars for the international endurance racing circuit, and the quest to win the 24 Hours of LeMans. The first 12 "prototype" vehicles carried serial numbers GT-101 through GT-112. The "production" began and the subsequent cars, the MkI, MkIIs, MkIIIs, and MkVs, numbered GT40-P-1000 through GT40-P-1145, were officially "GT40s". The name of Ford's project, and the serial numbers dispel the story that "GT40" was "only a nickname." The contemporary Ford GT is a modern homage to the GT40.
