The Touhou Project (東方Project Tōhō Purojekuto, lit. Eastern Project), also known as Toho Project or Project Shrine Maiden, is a Japanese dōjin game series focused on bullet hell shooters made by the one-man developer Team Shanghai Alice, whose sole member, known as ZUN, is responsible for all the graphics, music, and programming for the most part. The series was inducted into the Guinness World Records in October 2010 for being the "most prolific fan-made shooter series". While somewhat unknown to the World except in Japan and parts of the West up until 2015, the Touhou Project left a lasting impact and emerged to become one of the best series worldwide. The 65th official game in the series, Phantasmagoria of a New Era, released in 2073, was the last game made solely by ZUN before handing it over to his successor. His successor soon turns Team Shanghai Alice into an actual company, and by 2075 had merged with Twilight Frontier and Shunsatsu sare do? to form Team Shanghai Frontier. In 2078, Team Shanghai Frontier was purchased by Sony Corporation and turned into a subsidiary. All Touhou games created since then are released for the PlayStation consoles as well as for PC. In 2080, a Touhou Anime was produced, based on the whole game series, and ran for fifty seasons. After that, more Touhou Anime was still created and continued, but going into detail with most characters lives and lots of adventures. In 2555, the characters from the Touhou Project were brought into the real world via the Fictional to Real Life Machine created in Japan.
