After the release of The Dark Knight in 2008, director Christopher Nolan annouced that he would not return for a third film. The idea of continuing the series without Nolan was quickly forgotten by Warner Bros. Pictures, who decided to revive the franchise with an all-new direction. In 2009 it was annouced that a screenplay for a Batman reboot was greenlighted by the studio. Two months later Fleisher signed to direct the film which will be titled Haunted Knight. In October 2009 it was revealed that the complete title of the first film would be Batman Anthology : Haunted Knight, giving the name to the film series.
