. "Avatar Wiki:War Room/Family parameter"@en . "__NOWYSIWYG__ This is a minor thing, really. I propose that we add an extra parameter to the {{character infobox<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>}} named \"family\". Right now, we list all family members behind allies\u2014were they can remain\u2014but I feel like it's more informative in the infobox if we have an additional parameter listing them as family, to make their genealogy clear from the start. It's something we already have on the fanon character infobox, and I don't really see a reason why we shouldn't do the same for the canon infobox. 09:14, September 21, 2016 (UTC)"@en . We don't universally list family members behind allies, like I'm pretty hard pressed to set Ozai or Azula as an ally for Zuko, or how you'd relate Yakone and Amon to Tarrlok. Hell, Korra even killed her own uncle on screen after having sided with him for the first four episodes of Book 2. Bottom line, while family generally means ally in Avatar, it's definitely not universal. 2. There already is a perfectly good family tree on all the characters we know to have family at the bottom of their pages. Adding it to their infoboxes would just rattle off their names, while the family tree more accurately displays how they are related. 3. Where do you draw the line? Would you list Sozin for General Iroh, despite the fact that Sozin has been dead for over a century by the time Iroh was born? Same goes for Lao and Poppy Beifong on Suyin's page. They were still alive when Su was young, and it is indicated that they had some relation, but we never see them interact, let alone with Su's children. On the whole, I think this would just make pages more messy while not being entirely necessary. I say we keep it as is. 10:06, September 21, 2016 (UTC) You're missing my point, as I don't intend on changing anything about the current allies/enemies listing. This is merely about adding an additional parameter to more clearly note family relations. The fact that there is a perfectly good family tree on the page already is irrelevant to whether or not we should add something to an infobox, as if that were an argument based on which we would draft the infobox, we might as well just delete the entire thing, as nearly everything that's listed in the infobox is already listed somewhere on the page - and mostly even already in the opening paragraph of the page. Infoboxes are meant to give a quick overview of what is seen as \"vital/important information\" regarding a character - and it's also often one of the few things that people read of a character page. We generally have taking quite a broad stance on \"vital/important\" in the infobox, I don't see why noting a genealogy more clearly wouldn't fit into there as well. Why does a line need to be drawn? Yes, we have three large family trees, but listing all of them in an additional parameter wouldn't make that section any messier than the allies/enemies section is right now. Sure, the infobox listing would never be as clear as the actual family tree, but it doesn't have to be (though it is also worthy to note that the family tree shows up horribly on mobile). It's just to provide a quick overview of important information, and the fact that some characters are related is important. 10:48, September 21, 2016 (UTC) I support LL's proposal. I assume you mean to do the same type of \"Family\" parameter as on the character infobox on the Harry Potter Wiki. In fact, I have been meaning to propose this idea for the longest time, but I got caught up in... another wiki. If this is a go, should it be placed below \"Enemies\" or above \"Allies\"? From an aesthetic point of view, I believe it should be the latter. 23:12, September 21, 2016 (UTC)"@en . . .
