This doorway, the ruins of a by-gone age, was the bane of many a prophet. Hundreds would come here, trying to open it, before failing miserably that they were never chosen to open it, never to share the knowledge it contained. Generations of those old, wise, obsessed and faithful were at the mercy of their gods, denied by those they supposedly served. And all it took was the wave of the hand to awaken it. A wave of a youngster's hand to open an impenetrable door. \"I-I thought you said it was broken,\" Sursa shouted, her bulk of a body shaking in anticipation. Unsure if she was heard, she shouted again. \"You said nothing worked out here. And you did that, and then-\" \"I-uh-I,\" Stuttered Zuka, and who could blame him? He stepped back in shock. \"Are you serious? Gods, Sursa, this wasn't meant to happen.\" \"Looks like you're smarter than everyone else on Sangheilios!\" Burt stated in awe, yet the same joking manner he always talks in. Typical of him to joke like this. He never, never seemed to be scared. He walked over to the edge of the hole. \"That's... quite a long way down. Any volunteers?\" he suggested, staring directly to Zuka, who was now sweating unbearably. Surely he wasn't going to do it, is he? he wondered hopefully, I know him, he's not that stupid. Without warning, Burt pulled at his shirt, pushing Zuka until there was no more ground below his feet. He fell, he screamed, he feared for his life. He actually did it. A long series of echoes repeating \"oooff,\" was heard. Everything was pitch-black. He could see nothing, not even his own hand. Everything was strangely quiet, suspiciously so. And the subtle smell of rotting wood did nothing to calm his mind. Zuka however wasn't about to show his friends his fear. Fear was for the Helio'vil. \"Are you ok?\" A voice echoed down, deepened and slow, but it was still easily recognised as Sursa. \"Zuka, are you ok? If-\" \"I'm fine, I'm fine, no need to w-worry about me!\" replied Zuka, the atmosphere obviously getting to him. He slowly waved his arms in random directions, eager to find something which would give direction. Should've expected that. \"What do I do now?\" \"See, he's ok. Nothing wrong with him, he might actually be a worthy discoverer after this is over!\" another voice boomed in the only way which could be assumed as Burts. \"You're not helping us. Umm, uhh, is the-there anything that might help us down,\" shouted Sursa, ignoring the stupid replies of her acquaintance. \"An-anything that might he-help you up, like an elevator?\" \"Its hard enough to see already, how am I supposed to find something like that in here?\" was the complaining reply. Zuka didn't sign up to this. It was supposed to be a 'burn and rush' bit of fun - burning the crops and leaving before anyone could find out they were there. Instead, they activated an ancient tomb, and now he was trapped. Slowly flailing his arms some more, he felt relief when he felt the wonderful sensation of something solid. He blindly tried to navigate his way through the tunnel, never lifting his hand off the walls. Strange, the cavern sounds like metal, but the wall feels... like skin. How can that be? Indeed, it even had a liquid which felt like sweat or, at times, like mucus. Why in the world would the god's do this? As he got pushed on, he became more worried as he felt the hunch of something watching him. Actually, it would be more accurate to say it felt like it was feeling him, touching him, experiencing the impression his hands had against the wall. It was... unnerving, an instinct he never felt before. His heart race rose, and he began to panick. His instincts took over his cautious, and picked up speed, first jogging, then sprinting when he couldn't shake it off. He paid the price when all of a sudden an undetected lump pulled his feet from beneath him, and he fell into an unknown room. His bruised face lifted up from the ground - or so it seemed. Was it the ground? Maybe he was unexpectedly laying up against the wall. Stumbling, he raised himself up. Ok, I'm off the ground now he figured. He noted he didn't have strange sensation he had before - perhaps the fall knocked some sense into him? He took a single stumbled step, and suddenly glowing glyphs appeared out of nowhere around him. They seemed to move, maybe that was intended by their makers, maybe not, but at this point Zuka couldn't care less. So these are the writings of the gods he thought, watching them in awe. Strangely, he couldn't see any better, but it did not bother him. If anything, he was excited. His body was teeming with anticipation. Which symbol to press, which to not, he couldn't decide. As he turned around, he saw even more symbols behind him. But these were odd. They were shaped in a circle formation, with the outmost symbols glowing an angry red. In the middle, a curved green, beautiful glyph stared at him, almost daring him to touch it. He obliged. \"Ok, I think I did it guys, you can come down now!\" He echoed down the halls. A subtle hum started up, accompanied by a the scent of flowers. Figuring it was time to go, he pulled himself up, and again placed his hands on the walls to guide his way out. As he pushed on, the atmosphere around him change - the walls slowly stopped feeling like healthy skin and sweat. Instead, it slowly became squishy and oily, and bloody. It felt dead and it smelt rotten. The scent raced his mind, and despite efforts to ignore it, he felt something was wrong, very wrong... \"Did the god's never invent lights?\" he whispered, and the construct seemed to obey him. The construct groaned, the sound rumbling through his body and forcing his heart to beat faster and faster. He couldn't stop it. What in god's name is doing this he thought, it raced through his mind. Slowly, the veil of black lifted, and he was shocked with what he saw. The lights were bloodshot eyes. They stared at him in a million directions, staring at him through holes in the ceiling and the walls, following at him wherever he went. He turned around and came face-to-face with a beast being formed, being constructed by hundreds of slimy, wrinkled worms. Some had disgusting scars filled with pus and thickened blood. In a number of seconds, the beast was built, first the thick legs, then the acidic stomach that glowed a yucky yellow color, patching the holes by overlaying the slithering worms on top of each other. Finally, the neck and head formed up, and thousands of angry toothed mouths smiled around the main opening that could only assumed to be the mouth. He couldn't take it, he raced as fast as he could, following the tunnel of stinking flesh and fused metal in an effort to escape the menance. The constant rhythm of Oh, oh oh!, his screams and his panicking remarks did little to restore his confidence. The sickening groan grew louder behind him, getting closer and closer. He slammed into the wall, and a glimmer of hope appeared from above. Like an angel, the golden light of Sangheilio's Sun's rays shown in from above. He considered shouting for help, but the continued groaning from behind him forced him to attempt to climb. He tried, and he tried, and he still tried, but the rising tunnel was too big for him. His life flashed before him, the scent of death grew ever stronger. He was gonna die, and he knew it. Suddenly, his darting eyes saw his salvation - a ladder, just his size as well. Wasting no time, Zuka climbed quickly, scaling the wall as fast as a twelve year old could. A quick glance revealed the foe was not that far from him, and he pushed himself to his limits. He was near the top, the angel welcoming him to his salvation. \"Aaaahhhhhh!\" he screamed, and he felt hard fangs dig deeper into his leg. Dammit, I will not let this be the end of me. Like a wave, the pain overcame control of his body, threatening to drown him. Despite his best efforts, he couldn't beg his body to climb. Despite what he wanted, both the monster from below and his body wanted to sink him into the depths of hell, feasting on his bones for time everlasting. And then he felt a tug, a tug which airlifted him to safety. As he was pulled through door, suddenly behind him it closed, and with it, the hell which had just lost its next meal. A wave of relief covered Zuka, and his eyes were full of pain from the bright lights that were Sangheilio's Suns. Yet it was not something to be regretted, but to be praised. I'm alive, I'm alive!. His eyes focused on the figure who was helping his leg, killing the worm which had tagged along with him. As the detail enhanced, he realised the figure wasn't the tall, strong and healthy Covenant soldier he imagined, but a small, frail figure with wrinkled skin. He may not be the hero he imagined, but after everything that happened, he may as well be. \"Thank you, thank you, thank you!\" he praised his protector. The hero stood up, his face showing his severe disappointment. \"Child, what were you doing amongst the holy ruins? Are you stupid? Do you not know about the curse?\" his words hollowed. \"What curse?\" Zuka muttered, as he raised himself up. \"The curse. Whoever enters the ruins may perish forever!\" the elder warned. \"What happened? How do you know?\" asked Zuka, now absolutely curious. \"One night, under the lights of the full moon of Suban, three children came out to the ruins. While I do not know why they were playing around them, somehow the god's chose them to open the holy relics. Only two came back - one was trapped in the ruins, and was never seen again!\" the elder echoed, utterly convinced in what he said. Maybe he was there. \"Wh-what the name of the guy who disappeared?\" Zuka asked cautiously. The elder sat down, his eyes began to tear. He stuttered, before replying \"he-he was my nephew. He disappeared about thirty years ago, twenty years before the war began\" the elder sighed and shed a tear, before resuming. \"His name was Zuka.\""@en . "Noggin"@en . "Matt"@en . "4170"^^ . . .
