"Petinos commanded a garrison troop of Videssian soldiers in a frontier fort near the border with Halogaland. When a civil war broke out between Stylianos and Maleinos II and Maleinos suffered a defeat near Imbros, Petinos was ordered by the Avtokrator Maleinos to bring his force back to Videssos the City to bolster his army. Petinos left a rump force to defend from any Halogai incursions and marched back toward the City. His route took him by Skopentzana so he took advantage of it to rest his troops there for several days. In addition Petinos prayed in the main temple. He was invited by the Prelate Rhavas to his residence for a conversation over wine to which he accepted. While sympathetic to Rhavas' concerns over possible Halogai invasion, he was sanguine, as winter was approaching and even they did not campaign during the northern snows. Petinos was more perturbed when Rhavas informed him that the frontier forts defending from Khamorth attack were also being stripped by both combatants in the civil war. The tribesmen wandered where their herds led them regardless of the weather. However, there was little he could do and so led his forces out of Skopentzana the next day."@en .
