"Melsk Thraus grew up around The Academy of Carida, where his grandfather had taught strategy to new imperial ground commanders and fleet officers alike. Melsk was placed in cadet training from a young age, learning the values of the Empire first hand. He was indoctrinated to the concepts of a pro human ideology, and unquestioning service through an iron fist. Melsk’s grandfather had a proud history serving as a commander aboard a variety of starships, specifically to train new pilots in starfighter maneuvers. His grandfather, Malan Thraus, was one of the leading voices in new tie fighter design, until his death at the hands of a rebel commando raid. Following the Carida system’s destruction at the hands of a rogue Jedi, Melsk and his family, were evacuated with the other imperial forces and their families. As part of the resulting fleet, Melsk’s father was charged with commanding a Victory Class Star Destroyer, the Crimson Sign. Mistaking it to be an invasion force, the fleet came under attack by a New Republic strike group. The Crimson Sign covered the retreat of the refugee’s transports, many of which held senior members of the prestigious academy. His father, like his father before him, was killed in the line of duty. Initially Melsk withdrew from the notion of Imperial service, preferring a civilian life, working under local government in civil planning. This was in part a reaction to the destruction of his home system, and in part due to the fact Melsk felt, he was serving the empire in his own way anyway. Though still having the rigid military upbringing as part of his character, he eventually began a career path in communications as a research analyst. In this new role he passed on data from a variety of sources, to both civil and military planners, picking up the fundamentals of strategic planning, and a taste of what was to come. This increasingly authoritarian line of work, appealed to Melsk's character, and he was soon considering an even more drastic career change. With the rebellion taking hold, and the hated Jedi reestablishing themselves, Melsk finally chose to join the Imperial navy and fight the good fight. He dislikes force users, non humans, and anything that tarnishes the pure vision of the Empire. Melsk Thraus is an imperial officer, bred to the bone, with a special hatred for the Jedi and what they did to his homeworld."@en . .
