"Marie-Rose Durocher"@en . . . . . . "Blessed Marie-Rose Durocher (1811-1849), was the Canadian foundress of Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. She was born Eulalie Durocher in the village of Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. At sixteen she wanted to become a religious but abandoned the idea because of her poor health. At eighteen, when her mother died, her priest brother invited her to come to his parish in Beloeil. Years later, her spiritual director, Father Pierre Telmon, urged her to found a community herself. She finally agreed and, with two friends, Melodie Dufresne and Henriette Cere, entered a little home in Longueuil, across the Saint Lawrence River from Montreal. Thus was born an international congregation of women religious dedicated to education in the faith. She died in 1849. She was beatified in Rome by Pope John Paul II on May 23, 1982. Her feast day is celebrated on October 6th."@en .
