To his Pokemon, he focuses on their strengths, weaknesses, and helps them to avoid future harm. Unlike most Gym Leaders, Akira is normally missing from his Gym. He does not like facing Trainers who are only there for the Badge (which is why he sometimes refuses to give badges to \"winning\" Trainers). With his partner, Luxray, they both want their opponents to learn from battle instead of hogging it for money and badges. He still remains missing even up to today.
