On August 12, the storm received the name Akio. Unlike the next storm, Brick, Akio slowly strengthened. Akio reached a peak of 65 MPH on September 19 before weakening back to 60 MPH. Akio then rapidly strengthened, and became the seasons eighth Category 1 Hurricane on September 24, and was then upgraded to a Category 2 Hurricane on October 15.
