"The Dorvain General Election, 1878 was held on the 27th May 1878 to elect the Twentieth Parliament of the Commonwealth of Dorvain. Each of the 125 parliamentary constituencies elected one Member of Parliament to Parliament. The issue or strikers rights dominated this election. In the summer of 1877, when new Prime Senator Sebastian John Davis entered power, many miners went on strike due to poor working conditions. Davis' Royalists put employers rights first, supporting their ability to fire strikers on the spot. Meanwhile the Democrats under Carl Clarke wanted to stop this and give into some of the strikers demands, arguing it was the fair thing to do and it would resolve the issue much sooner. Clarke's Democrats won the election, and enacted the Strikers Act 1878 forbidding employers to fire strikers on the spot without reasonable grounds."@en . . . . .
