Despite scoring a double podium at its first race, the Australian Grand Prix, the car performed somewhat disappointingly, as McLaren was left to fight for fifth place in the championship with Force India, a battle the British team won. The MP4-29 was the most mechanically reliable car, being classified every race except Bahrain and Singapore, where Magnussen and Button retired from these races respectively.
