He also played for Canada at the 1978 World Junior Championship, winning a bronze medal. Turning pro in 1978, he played for the New Brunswick Hawks from 1978 to 1980 and for the Dallas Black Hawks in 1980-81. Young got into 8 games for Chicago in 1980-81, scoring 2 assists. After playing only two games for New Brunswick in the 1981-82 season, Young jumped to the Schwenningen ERC in Germany. He played four seasons there and then played two seasons for K\u00F6lner Haie.
