In 1983, Engesa looked to expand its offerings by purchasing FNV (Fabrica Nacional de Fegaio) of Brazil, which manufactured construction equipment. FNV had previously had a joint venture with Allis-Chalmers, and later a joint venture with Komatsu in Brazil.
