Firefighter Paul was the first fireman to make his way through the rubble to the mother and son where he spoke words of comfort to her and rescued the baby from her, promising to be back with more men and equipment. Once outside the shop, he handed the baby over to Suzanne for the infant to be taken to hospital for examination and observation. In May 2015, she was part of the crew that attended the fire at Victoria Court. She examined Amy Barlow who had been trapped in the fire and soon afterwards gave CPR to Maddie Heath whose pulse had stopped when she had been caught in a secondary explosion from the Builder's Yard.
