. . "Eels (often typeset as eels or EELS) is an American alternative rock band, formed in California in 1995 by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Oliver Everett, known by the stage name \"E.\" Band members have changed across the years, both in the studio and on stage, making Everett the only official member for most of the band's work. Often filled with themes about family, death and lost love, Eels' music straddles a wide range of genres, which is evidenced by the distinct musical style of every album. Since 1996, Eels has made eleven major studio releases, The Cautionary Tales of Mark Oliver Everett (2014) being their most recent release. Eels appear on several film soundtracks, including Scream 2, American Beauty, Road Trip, Holes, The Anniversary Party,Knocked Up, Yes Man, The End of Violence, Hellboy II, Hot Fuzz, Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away 3D, Charlie Bartlett, Enough Said, Delivery Man, and the first three Shrek films. The EELS song \"Fresh Blood\" was used as the theme to the HBOdocumentary series The Jinx, premiering February 2015."@en . . . "Knuckles"@gl . . . . . "Jonathan \"Butch\" Norton"@gl . . . Eels are not to be mistaken with electric eels, an invention of Thomas Edison, which are quite common today and may provide a cheap source of electricity in the near future. Eels are creatures of great stealth and elusion and they are rarely seen outside of the back alleys of New York, New Orleans, Milwaukee and San Fransisco. Few have been sighted in broad daylight and their have been many gruesome stories of people being consumed by these strange creatures. Eels in Colonial America were considered spawn of Satan or that of Santa. Either way, most eels were beaten to death with primitive American stone tools, some still used today in Ford factories."@en . Eels have contributed to many movie soundtracks, including Yes-Man and the first three Shrek films. The band has been described as a vehicle through which E expresses his innermost thoughts, fears, and desires. This seems accurate, as the melodies and lyrics are generally very personal and introspective (especially on the most recent releases). As E wrote in his memoir Things The Grandchildren Should Know, each album reflects E's emotional state at the time he wrote the songs. Since E has led a pretty tumultuous life, the albums range from bright and optimistic to bitter and resentful. Although Eels never really broke out into the mainstream (\"Novocaine for the Soul\" was a minor hit, but that's about it for them chartwise in the United States), they do have a large and dedicated cult following. The 1998 album Electro-Shock Blues, E's effort to come to terms with the deaths of his mother and sister, is usually considered his magnum opus. The latest album, Tomorrow Morning, was released in August 2010."@en . . . . "Eels"@gl . "Founded: 1995 Headquarters: Los Angeles, CA Website Link(s): [ Eel"@en . . .
