Los ejércitos de Akasha capturan a las gemelas pelirrojas y hechiceras Maharet y Mekare en el banquete funerario de su madre. Son llevadas ante Akasha y durante la audiencia las gemelas haciendo alarde de sus poderes con los espíritus ofenden y atemorizan a la reina, por lo que Enkil ordena a su mayordomo y hombre de confianza Khayman, que las viole publicamente. En este punto si lo espíritus aparecían para ayudarlas, ambas serían condenadas y si éstos no hacían acto de presencia serían liberadas al no considerarlas peligrosas. Entre el revuelo un asesino, aprovecha la ocasión para puñalar a los reyes y Amel, un espíritu que se alimenta de sangre se introduce en el cuerpo de Akasha para residir en él como el gérmen sagrado. Akasha acaba de recibir el Don Oscuro y viendo casi por casualidad, que al contacto de la sangre de Akasha con la de su rey moribundo, las heridas de éste sanaban, Akasha da de beber su sangre a Enkil, convirtiéndolo en un vampiro como ella. Gracias a esto, Akasha y Enkil se convierten en el mito egipcio de Isis y Osiris. Pasaron los siglos y ambos se convirtieron en estatuas vivientes necesitando el cuidado de uno de los suyos. Su último y más fiel cuidador fue Marius. Akasha se convirtió en la vampira más poderosa que jamás existió entre los vampiros de Anne Rice, seguida de Enkil, quienes ya no necesitaban la sangre para vivir.
