n5:abstract
Arctic Circle is a flag on the Ice Ocean founded in the year 2005 on May 23rd. The arctic circle was a druid circle associated with the cold climate where glaciers formed and winters were harsh. Druids who took up the cause of nature in such a climate had an affinity for this circle and the suite of spells that came to them without cost (they could cast them at any time without having to prepare them in advance). The Arctic Circle is one of the five major circles of latitude that mark maps of the Earth. For Epoch 2011, it is the parallel of latitude that runs 66° 33′ 44″ (or 66.5622°) north of the Equator. The region north of this circle is known as the Arctic, and the zone just to the south is called the Northern Temperate Zone. The equivalent polar circle in the Southern Hemisphere is called the Antarctic Circle. The Arctic Circle marks the southern extremity of the polar day (24-hour sunlit day, often referred to as the "midnight sun") and polar night (24-hour sunless night). North of the Arctic Circle, the sun is above the horizon for 24 continuous hours at least once per year and below the horizon for 24 continuous hours at least once per year. On the Arctic Circle those events occur, in principle, exactly once per year, at the June and December solstices, respectively. In fact, because of atmospheric refraction and because the sun appears as a disk and not a point, part of the midnight sun may be seen on the night of the northern summer solstice up to about 50 mi (90 km) south of the Arctic Circle; similarly, on the day of the northern winter solstice, part of the sun may be seen up to about 50 mi north of the Arctic Circle. That is true at sea level; those limits increase with elevation above sea level although in mountainous regions, there is often no direct view of the true horizon. The position of the Arctic Circle is not fixed, but directly depends on the Earth's axial tilt, which fluctuates within a margin of 2° over a 40,000 year period, notably due to tidal forces resulting from the orbit of the Moon. The Arctic Circle is currently drifting northwards at a speed of about 15 m per year, see Circle of latitude for more information. __TOC__ History of location is unknown. Because it is all covered with ice, the Arctic Circle has virtually nothing on the land. Recently however, George W. Bush has started an extensive search for Weapons of Mass Destruction in the Arctic Circle. This is of course widely seen as a futile effort to convince the United Nations to authorize a war against Santa Claus. Given that Santa has never successfully destroyed the earth, and that the UN have never managed to destroy him, it is understandable, if galling, that the UN has so far refused to authorize a pre-christmas strike on Santa. Many commentators have speculated that Bush wishes in fact to pursue a 'war for toys', and gain control of the international toy market. This speculation is supported by claims that Bush is still put out that Santa placed him on the 'naughty boys' list during most of the 1970s and 1980s. Predictably, nothing has been found as of the current date. Unlike in Iraq however, Santa is widely known to possess massive and dangerous weapons such as pop-guns, water pistols and plastic swords and armour. Come to think of it, that is quite like Iraq's weaponry... The Arctic Circle was discovered by the Vikings, led by Olaf the Red in 813AD when Olaf dropped the compass and sailed right past Olaf-fjord while he was scrabbling in the bottom of the boat. More recently, the Arctic Circle was discovered to have been a tropical resort 55 million years ago, although with the dinosaurs already having been dead for 10 million years, it couldn't have very many customers. The holidaygoers on record were Santa Claus, Superman, and some fifteen Tyrannosaurus Rex who had fallen through a wormhole. The Arctic Circle is a trade circle that is currently incomplete. It only trades with alliances that sign up to the trading circle. The idea was founded by the New Arctic Order. The circle trades the resources of the US of Cazhelicon, the 10th largest nation in the game. In the late 17th century, the Arctic Circle, located under the Kara Sea, was labeled on a map of Earth. The label for this region was in Latin - "Circulus Arcticus". (Star Trek: Enterprise opening credits) In 2063, the USS Enterprise-E pursued a Borg sphere to Earth from the 24th century through a Borg-created temporal vortex. The Borg had arrived to destroy the Phoenix, Zefram Cochrane's historic first warp-powered vessel. The Enterprise-E easily destroyed the sphere, though the Borg drones escaped. (Star Trek: First Contact) Unknown to the Enterprise-E crew, much of the debris from the Borg sphere landed in the Arctic Circle. Nearly a hundred years later, an Earth Sciences Institute team discovered the debris field and recovered two Borg drones from beneath a glacier. The drones thawed and assimilated the researchers and their ship. (ENT: "Regeneration") The Arctic Circle is a an area in Random Kingdom III * Earth II * Enemies: Polar Bear, Winter Wolf, Red Combatant A US Airforce plane crash landed in the Arctic Circle where it was discovered by Shako.
