Before ascending to the afterlife, Chan told Liu Kang that his spirit would always be with him until they were reunited. While initially shocked by the image of Chan, Liu doesn't fall for the trick, however, and defeats Shang Tsung which results in the release of all the souls that had been taken by Shang Tsung, including Chan's, who greets his brother.
