"Like the Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-wing starfighter that it was somewhat related to, the ARC-170 also had an S-foil system that allowed it advanced maneuverability. The engine heat also augmented the vessel's shields, but exactly how was a trade secret. This ship required three pilots and an astromech droid to fly efficiently. One person flew the ship, one manned the primary weapons\u2014two medium laser cannons\u2014and the third controlled two light laser cannon turrets facing rearward to make up for its rather slow turning speed. This ship also carried a payload of six proton torpedoes. The R2-series astromech assisted in targeting, navigation and repairs. Overall, this ship was supported by lighter squadrons while they were the heavy-hitters alongside somewhat slower bombers. They had particle shielding and could survive some flak/chaff hits, but only one or two missiles could destroy them. A Venator-class Star Destroyer could carry 36 ARC-170s."@en . . "No sensible pilot would ever pilot an ARC-170, which is why they were all piloted by clones. The medium laser cannons were mounted haphazardly on the wings, but even a minor jolt could knock them off, like the rear bumper of a Ford Pinto. The S-foils did nothing but increase the fighter's target silhouette. In one-on-one battles, ARC-170s could barely hold their own against TIE fighters... but on the good side, TIEs and X-wings hadn't been invented yet, so they were mostly fighting Vulture droids, who had worse flight AI than the pirates in Privateer 2: The Darkening."@en . . . . .
