Although he was not exactly antagonistic towards the victims of the infamous haunting, he was indirectly responsible for their plight as he had lied to Steve Freeling about the relocation of the grave-site upon which he built several homes in Cuesta Verde, amongst them the future home of the Freeling family (who worked for him). Lewis Teague had actually left the bodies and moved only the headstones, causing many spirits to become confused and lost - in the process he also awoke the demon known as Reverend Henry Kane (known at the time as \"the Beast\"). Lewis' crime is not revealed until the climax of the film when the spirits begin to attack the Freeling family by literally spewing out the remains of the cemetery beneath the house - prompting Steve to angrily yell at Lewis over what had transpired before he ran to save his family. Lewis was left in shock as he watched the house literally implode as the spirits took their final revenge by destroying the structure that had defiled their sacred site - though much of the surrounding community was also destroyed."@en . .
