The factory was built in 90 AG and had an immediate and destructive effect on the surrounding ecosystems. It was the excessive pollution from this plant that led to the plight of the Jang Hui fishing village, where a large portion of the population was sickened by the polluted water and left to starve from the lack of healthy fish. In 100 AG, the factory was destroyed by Aang and Katara, the latter of whom masqueraded as the Painted Lady, the spirit who protected Jang Hui. General Mung, believing the local residents were responsible for the destruction of the facility, sent a team of domestic soldiers to destroy the village. They were defeated by Katara and Aang, the former warning them never to return. The loss of this destructive factory allowed Jang Hui to thrive once again.
