Michael Grant was the legal counsel for Rebecca Dalton in Almost Famous. As Mrs. Dalton's attorney, he enjoyed Power of Attorney in regard to her business affairs, and it was this that led to the death of Derek Brookner, and Grant's own arrest for said murder. Grant abused his position, and hired Brookner, who was a stripper and actor, to play the role of an affluent, successful businessman in a scam Grant set up by drawing on Rebecca's accounts. When Brookner misappropriated funds for his own use, Grant realized he could not got to the police or Rebecca, and so resolved the matter by shooting Brookner instead. However, although Castle and Beckett traced the money for the scam back to Rebecca's accounts, they realised that Grant was the one responsible for withdrawing the money as Rebecca had been at Paris Fashion Week when some of the withdrawals were made, Beckett knowing that no former model would have missed such an event. Grant was raised in a military family, attending ten schools in five states, as well as three schools in France. As an adult, he became a writer in part because "it was one of the few jobs that wouldn't tie him down to a specific location." He has lived in almost 50 homes in 14 states." He currently resides in Southern California with his wife Katherine, and his two children. Michael Grant is a former friend and co-worker of Danny. Michael Grant played Patrick Hoffman in the season four Private Practice episode The Hardest Part. Michael Grant was a D.A who testified in the case against Vincent Hanlan who was found guilty of murdering Navy Lt. Sylvia Waksal and who got eight years in jail as a result. As a result of an accident which cost him his thumb, Grant's big toe later replaced it on his left or right hand. Grant disappeared sometime around 2004 while hiking in the Appalachian Trail. In actuality, Vincent and his mother had both embarked on a spree by exacting their own revenge against those who'd helped put Vincent in jail. Grant was killed when he was embalmed while still alive with his body being dissected and thrown into with other dissected bodies before being shipped to Bethesda Naval Hospital where it soon fell into NCIS jurisdiction. While reassembling the body, Donald Mallard remembered the unique feature Grant had possessed and realized that the Hanlans were back for revenge.
