El mol (símbolo mol) es una de las siete unidades básicas fundamentales del Sistema Internacional de Unidades: es la que mide la cantidad de sustancia. Dada cualquier sustancia, elemento químico, compuesto o material; y considerando a la vez un cierto tipo de entidades elementales que lo componen, se define como un mol a la cantidad de sustancia que contiene tantas de esas entidades elementales como átomos de C12 hay en 12 gramos de éste.
